WORKSHOP FOR CARERS OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS IN RIVERS STATE

The workshop, titled “An Inclusive Mindset: From Awareness to Action,” convened caregivers, educators, and church teachers to address the challenges faced by children with special needs and their caregivers in Rivers State. The event aimed to foster collaboration, share best practices, and advocate for inclusive education and support services.

Objectives of the Workshop

The one-day workshop aimed at bringing together carers leading care for children with special needs from different facilities in Port Harcourt. The workshop objectives included:

  • Support to a community of practice and engagements in networks of carers for children with special needs.
  • Advanced understanding of the context, other support groups, major gaps and challenges
  • Identify obligations (not currently known to the organization) including government policies and regulations, binding for engagement in working with children with special needs.
  • If possible, coordinate an expert presentation on selected key topics to provide added knowledge for carers.
  • Learning and sharing best practices among participants

This workshop not only exemplified ECWF’s commitment to improving the livelihood and well-being of special needs children and their caregivers but also underscored its broader mission of creating a more inclusive society. Since its establishment in 2023, ECWF has been steadfast in its efforts to provide access to better living conditions, welfare, health, and psychosocial support for those most in need.
